AI-Assisted AUTOSAR Configuration Generator

Accelerating Automotive ECU Development with AI-Powered AUTOSAR Configuration

This project demonstrates an innovative integration between MATLAB's Model Context Protocol (MCP) Client, Large Language Models (LLMs), and AUTOSAR configuration workflows. It enables automotive software engineers to generate and configure AUTOSAR components using natural language, significantly reducing development time and potential configuration errors.

🎯 Project Goals

Automotive Industry Challenges Addressed:

  • Configuration Complexity: AUTOSAR configurations for modern ECUs involve hundreds of parameters across multiple BSW modules
  • Time-to-Market Pressure: Manual configuration is time-consuming and error-prone
  • Knowledge Gap: Domain expertise required for optimal parameter selection
  • Validation Overhead: Ensuring consistency across CAN, NvM, OS, and other stacks

Solution Benefits:

  • ✅ ~70% Time Reduction: Automate repetitive configuration tasks through natural language
  • ✅ Error Prevention: AI-guided parameter validation and consistency checks
  • ✅ Knowledge Democratization: Enable less experienced engineers to create valid configurations
  • ✅ Rapid Prototyping: Quickly iterate on ECU architecture designs

💡 Usage Examples

Example 1: CAN Interface Configuration

Natural Language Query:

Configure a CAN interface for a powertrain ECU operating at 500 kbps
with extended error handling and 8 message objects for engine control

Generated AUTOSAR Configuration:

  • CAN Controller with 500 kbps baudrate
  • Error handling mechanisms (Bus-Off recovery, error passive mode)
  • 8 CAN message objects with optimal mailbox allocation
  • Interrupt configuration for real-time performance

Example 2: NvM Fault Logging Setup

Natural Language Query:

Set up NvM blocks for fault logging with 100 fault codes,
immediate write for critical faults, and wear-leveling

Generated Configuration:

  • NvM block configuration with appropriate size
  • Immediate vs. deferred write strategies
  • CRC protection and redundancy settings
  • EEPROM wear-leveling parameters

Example 3: Multi-Module Configuration

Natural Language Query:

Create a complete BSW stack for a body control module with:
- CAN at 250 kbps
- LIN master at 19.2 kbps
- NvM for 50 parameters
- OS with 5ms task cycle

🎓 Integration with Real EB tresos

Current Implementation (Mock Mode)

  • Python-based ARXML generator simulating EB tresos output
  • Template-driven configuration for rapid prototyping
  • No licensing requirements

Production Integration Path

For production environments with EB tresos licenses:

# Replace mock generator in autosar_utils.py with:
import subprocess

def generate_real_config(params):
    """Call EB tresos CLI for real configuration generation"""
    cmd = [
        'tresos_cmd.bat',
        '-data', workspace_path,
        '-project', project_name,
        '-import', template_path,
        '-set', f'CanBaudrate={params["baudrate"]}',
        '-generate'
    ]
    subprocess.run(cmd, check=True)
    return parse_generated_arxml()

Integration Steps:

  1. Install EB tresos Studio with command-line interface
  2. Create project templates for common ECU configurations
  3. Update autosar_utils.py to invoke tresos CLI
  4. Add validation against EB tresos schema validators
