BRD TO JIRA AI Agent — Dependencies & Install Process

✅ How to Install WSL2 on Windows

Step 1 — Enable Windows Subsystem for Linux

  1. Go to Start → search for “Turn Windows features on or off”
  2. Enable Windows Subsystem for Linux

Step 2 — Install WSL2

Open Command Prompt as Administrator and run:

wsl --install

  • By default, Ubuntu will be installed (you can install another distro later).

  • Restart your Windows machine when prompted.

  • After reboot: Ubuntu will launch automatically, or you can open it from Start menu.

  • Complete setup by creating a username and password.

✅ Connect VS Code with Ubuntu Instance

In Ubuntu terminal, run:

Or install the Remote Explorer Extension in VS Code to connect.

✅ Recommended Setup in WSL2

Run these once (global tools):

sudo apt update
sudo apt install -y git curl python3 python3-pip python3-venv build-essential

Note : All projects can be created inside Ubuntu at:

/home/yourusername/dev/all_three_repo

Now ALL PROJECT SETUP STEPS

One: ✅ IBM MCP Gateway Setup

Clone the repository: git clone https://github.com/IBM/mcp-context-forge.git

git clone https://github.com/IBM/mcp-context-forge.git
cd mcp-context-forge

cp .env.example .env Create virtual environment and install dependencies:

make venv install install-dev

make serve

URL to Access : http://localhost:4444 and use username: admin@example.com and pass: changeme

⚠️ If you face a lock issue, run:

sudo rm /tmp/mcpgateway-gunicorn.lock

Clone the repo which has all the required projects inside ubuntu folder like

home/username/dev/ git clone git@github.com:ajaygangarde/AI-Agent-Spec-to-Jira-python.git.git

Two ✅ Gatekeeper Service (Project Folder: gatekeeper-service)

python3 -m venv venv

source venv/bin/activate

pip install -r requirements.txt

uvicorn gatekeeper_gateway:app --reload --host 0.0.0.0 --port 8000

Three ✅ MCP Server (Project Folder: mcp-brd-to-jira-server)

✅ MCP-SERVER root of the project
- python3 -m venv venv
- source venv/bin/activate
- pip install -e .
- pip install -r requirements.txt
- python -m mcp_brd_to_jira_server.main

#### Update .env files with your info ####

OPENAI_API_KEY=YOUR_OPEN_AI_KEY
DATABASE_URL=
JIRA_BASE_URL=YOUR_JIRA_URL

JIRA_API_TOKEN=YOUR_API_TOKEN
JIRA_PROJECT_KEY=YOUR_JIRA_PROJECT_KEY

Once this mcp-brd-to-jira-server server running take the url : http://127.0.0.1:8002/mcp and insert into http://localhost:4444 ->

On Home page find "MCP Servers Tab" and form Fields are

1. Add MCP Server Name = mcp-brd-to-jira-server-v1
2. MCP Server URL = http://127.0.0.1:8002/mcp
3. Transport Type = Stremable HTTP option
4. Save

Now it should added that server and pull the Tools from server - check tools tab you should see those details.

Four ✅ Run the UI App (Project Folder: brd-to-jira-ui)

Go to the project root and run:

npm run dev

App will be available at:

👉 http://localhost:5173/
